The North Carolina Justice Academy recently announced that Sergeant Nicholas Correll Stott of the Columbus Police Department recently completed the Criminal Investigations Certificate Program at the academy.
The Criminal Investigations Certificate program is designed to recognize the achievement of law enforcement professionals who have dedicated themselves to investigating crimes in their respective communities. Upon completion of the program, officers will have mastered several important aspects of criminal investigations and related topics, thus achieving a high level of professionalism for themselves as well as their department.
The Criminal Investigation Certificate Program requires the participant to be a sworn law enforcement officer of a law enforcement agency and have at least two years of experience investigating crimes. In addition, participants are required to have their agency’s head approval to participate in the program because of the time spent away from the agency in efforts to obtain the training needed to complete the program. The certificate program requires 500 hours of training with a focus on criminal investigations. Stott completed the program with well over the 500 required hours of training.
In January 2012, Stott completed the Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Certificate Program through the academy, which consisted of an additional 500 hours of training in the field of traffic safety.
The North Carolina Justice Academy, with campuses located in Salemburg and Edneyville, develops and conducts training courses for local and state law enforcement professionals. The academy provides training and technical assistance for law enforcement professionals through the five centers of the training division: investigations, legal, management, commission/in-service and tactical/traffic.
The academy is a division of the North Carolina Department of Justice under the administration of Attorney General Roy Cooper.
