Virginia Ann Chapman Murphey

Mrs. Virginia Ann Chapman Murphey, 75, beloved wife of Dr. Alex T. Murphey, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14.
She was born to the late Evelyn C. and Demus E. Chapman of Tryon. In the early 60s, Ann moved to the Augusta, Ga. area where she worked in a beauty salon and later opened “The Vogue” dress shop in North Augusta, S.C. In the late 60s, she met and married her husband, Dr. Alex T. Murphey.
She was a real estate agent and together with her husband developed Murphey-Real Properties. Mrs. Murphey devoted her entire life to her family.
Mrs. Murphey is survived by her husband, Dr. Alex Murphey; seven sons and daughters-in-law, Chris Murphey, Phillip and Miranda Murphey, Tom Murphey, Julian and DaNelle Murphey, Gene Murphey, David Murphey, Mike and Amanda Murphey; a brother and sister-in-law, Austin and Caroline Chapman; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Gene Strong; 12 grandchildren, Chapman Murphey, Levi Murphey, Jennifer Murphey-Greenbaum, Todd Murphey, Alex Murphey, Kristen Murphey, Brian Murphey, Deidre Thigpen, Courtney Murphey, Lauren Murphey, Sean Murphey and Leanna Murphey-Haye; two precious great-grandchildren, Tyler and Emma Grace, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Virginia Anne Strong.
Ann was preceded in death by her loving daughter-in-law, Amy Murphey.
The family expresses their appreciation and gratitude to Marie Jones and Mattie Marshall for the exemplary care and love shown to Dr. and Mrs. Murphey.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel in Martinez, Ga.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17 in Summerville Cemetery, with pastor Steve Hartman officiating.
