Home-town holidays: Towns begin parades, strolls

Tryon will hold its annual Christmas stroll on Friday, Dec. 5 beginning at 5 p.m. Downtown businesses will be open until 9 pm., many serving Christmas cheer. Merchants will have an assortment of goodies to eat and drink and their new Christmas wares will be on display. There will be demonstrations of gift ideas in the Shops of Tryon lobby.

Several new businesses ‐ the piano and wine bar and two new co-ops for artisans and antiques ‐ will have their grand openings the night of the stroll.

The Foothills Mennonite Church will be offering free homemade chili, baked goods and coffee in the parking lot outside Kyoto&39;s restaurant in the Shops of Tryon.

Look for Santa and his helpers with steaming hot chocolate and candy canes outside St. Luke&39;s Thrift Shop from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Throughout the evening, various groups will be providing live entertainment, including musicians and carolers beginning at 6:15 p.m. in the Shops of Tryon lobby.

Landrum Christmas stroll

Landrum&39;s annual Christmas stroll will be Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Merchants will be providing Christmas treats, hassle-free shopping and holiday music.

Santa will stroll through town beginning at 11 a.m. He will end up at the Country Mouse Inn on Trade Avenue, where strollers can visit for photos from noon to 2 p.m.

At 3 p.m., a dulcimer and recorder group from O.P. Earle Elementary will perform, beginning at Covington Jewelry and then moving to Hare & Hound Restaurant. The O.P. Earle Chorus will perform at 4 p.m. at the Coach House, and at 5 p.m., the Jackson Memorial Baptist Church Choir, Handbells & Youth Band will perform on Trade Avenue across from Twigs.

Tryon Christmas parade

This year&39;s Christmas parade in Tryon, sponsored by the Tryon Fire Department, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. in downtown Tryon. The parade will feature both Polk County and Landrum High School bands, fire trucks and, of course, Santa himself.

Afterwards, Santa will visit with children at the fire station.

Saluda Hometown

Christmas

Saluda Hometown Christmas will be held on Friday, Dec. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Downtown merchants will be offering holiday treats and seasonal music.

Columbus Christmas parade and stroll

The Christmas celebration in Columbus will take place this year on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Christmas parade will move from the Food Lion parking lot through town on the main street (Mills Avenue).

Following the parade there will be a Christmas tree lighting ceremony led by the Columbus mayor.

Organizations, businesses and individuals may also decorate a tree in Stearns lawn; interested persons should call town hall beforehand to let officials know they will be decorating a tree.

The celebration then continues at Stearns Park, where there will be Christmas caroling, craft vendors, visits with Santa, hot chocolate and cookies, horse-drawn carriage rides and Christmas music. The event is expected to continue until about 8 p.m.

Thermal Belt Outreach will be selling hot chocolate, coffee and baked goods. There will also be a canned food drive to help supply Outreach&39;s food pantry.
