We can ‘Stop Hunger Now’

No one should go hungry.
In this country we are blessed with an abundance of food and most of us take for granted that we will be eating several times today.
For many of our brothers and sisters around the world the next meal is not a given and may not happen at all today.
Stop Hunger Now “SNH” is a food packaging organization that supplies food to help relieve hunger all over the world. They provide meals that are complete, nutritious, and include rice, vegetables, protein and vitamins. The meals are dehydrated and ready to eat by adding water heated to 150 degrees.
SNH partners with communities and organizations to donate 25 cents per meal packaged to purchase the ingredients and provide for administrative costs. They have earned a four-star rating for their effective management of finances.

Last year the Rotary Club of Tryon and the Tryon Congregational Church participated in a packing event with “Stop Hunger Now” in Hendersonville that was part of packing one million meals for shipment to Haiti.
For those who attended, the experience was so impressive that they wanted to have an event in Tryon that would allow more local individuals and groups to participate.
The group began working on the local event idea and, through the generous donations of many, raised enough money to purchase ingredients to pack 25,000 meals for shipment to Haiti.
Major sponsors of this year’s local event are the Tryon Congregational Church, members of the Rotary Club of Tryon, Holy Cross Episcopal Church and the Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation.
More than 100 local volunteers have signed up to help pack the meals this Saturday at the open basketball court at Harmon Field. They will be working in two shifts, the first starting at 8:15 a.m. and the second at 10:30 a.m.
I’m told they have plenty of volunteers, but if you feel strongly that you would like to be a part of this event, you would be welcomed with open arms.
Providing 25,000 nutritious meals to those in need is a great way to start a beautiful day.
