The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will meet at the Tryon Youth Center on Rt. 176 W. on Sunday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. The speaker will be Cecil Bothwell, whose topic will be “Woo-Woo versus the Bunny Hug: Will we be saved by faith or works?”

“Many New Age religious beliefs assume that something can be created from nothing, that creation is limitless, whereas environmentalism works from an assumption that the biomass of earth is fixed by solar income and that an increase in one form of life is offset by a decrease in another. In other words, the contest between woo-woos and bunny-huggers boils down to a debate about whether life is a zero-sum game,” said Bothwell.

Cecil Bothwell – biographer, investigative reporter, builder, organic gardener and public servant – has addressed issues of sustainability, human rights and social responsibility in personal appearances and media venues around the world.

He was elected to the Asheville City Council in 2009 and his critical biography of evangelist Billy Graham has garnered international acclaim. His latest book is titled, “Whale Falls: An examination of belief and its consequences.” Bothwell is an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville.

Come early for fellowship and refreshments. There will be a discussion after the service.

The last service before the summer break will be held Sunday, June 12. It will include a potluck lunch.
