Construction begins on water line through Green Creek
Published 3:14 pm Tuesday, August 19, 2008
The water line will be roughly 15 miles long, with about 6 miles of line through Polk County and the remainder through Spartanburg County. Polk County will own the portion of the line in Polk County.
Polk County will be allowed to purchase up to 500k gallons&bsp; of water per day and resell it to Polk customers. Whitson says Polk&39;s water rates will be lower than those of any other water provider in Polk County except the Town of Columbus&39;s rates for customers inside city limits.
This interstate water line will provide ICWD with treated water and will also provide property owners along the route of the water line with water service and fire protection.&bsp;
The proposed route will include portions of Poors Ford Road, Meadowbrook Road, Chesnee Highway, and W. Melvin Hill Road in Polk County.&bsp; In addition, the water line will also be constructed along Melvin Hill Road in Spartanburg County.&bsp; Maps of the project are available at the ICWD website (www.icwd.org).
All property owners who have frontage on the roads in which the water line will be constructed should now be in receipt of correspondence from ICWD which outlines what is necessary in order to receive water service from ICWD.&bsp;
Should any resident have questions or concerns about this project or about how to obtain water service, they may contact ICWD at (828) 863-2295 in Polk County and (864) 472-2858 in Spartanburg County.
