The Foothills Humane Society (FHS) recently announced the addition of Michelle Ledbetter to its staff as volunteer program coordinator. Ledbetter has been a Saluda resident most of her life. She adopted one of her dogs from FHS, a Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix named Katie. She also has an English Bulldog and a cat.

Following high school graduation, Ledbetter attended Appalachian State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Because of her love for this area, she moved back in 2010 after graduating from college.
Before coming to FHS, Ledbetter worked in a veterinary hospital and she said, through that work she developed a strong desire to help animals in need, a desire that led her to work for FHS. She also has experience in volunteer work. A particular interest of hers is Children’s Miracle Network.
Ledbetter said she is excited about her new position.
“What I hope to accomplish here at Foothills Humane Society is to build meaningful relationships with our volunteers, so I am better able to assist them in their personal goals of helping animals,” she said. “We rely on our volunteers to help our shelter run smoothly and effectively. Without these dedicated individuals, we would not be able to find permanent loving homes for the many animals that come through our door each day.  Everyone can be a beneficial volunteer – no matter what your talents, circumstances or interests, we have a job for you!”
