TRYON—On Sunday, July 20, Empowering Through Beauty, Inc., and the Pea Ridge Partnership initiative hosted a transformative “Sunday’s Blessings” event, bringing much-needed relief and essential household goods to individuals and families throughout Polk County. Held at 113 Peake Street in Tryon, the event served as a lifeline for many struggling to meet basic daily needs.

Founder Tanisha Akinloye expressed deep gratitude to The Church of the Living God in Tryon, the Polk Referral Center, and VAYA Health for their support of the community.

“This is what it looks like when people and organizations come together with love and purpose,” said Akinloye. “It’s about meeting people where they are and offering real help that can lighten the load—even if just a little.”

Dozens of residents came not only to pick up supplies for themselves, but also to gather items for elderly parents, neighbors without transportation, and family members who couldn’t attend. From hygiene items to paper products and cleaning supplies, the event provided everyday essentials that are often taken for granted—but make a major difference when budgets are stretched thin.

“Some may believe that everyone has access to what they need, but that’s far from reality,” Akinloye explained. “Many of the people we serve are working, but even with a job, they’re choosing between buying gas to get to work or buying laundry detergent. The storm of Helene may be over, but the effects are still being felt in homes across our community.”

By removing barriers to access—like transportation, cost, and awareness—Sunday’s Blessings continues to bridge critical gaps for those often overlooked. Empowering Through Beauty is committed to not only providing tangible resources but also restoring dignity and hope.

“This is about more than giving away items,” said Akinloye. “It’s about making people feel seen, supported, and reminded that they’re not alone.”
