COLUMBUS—The Polk Referral Center will host a special community event on Monday, July 28, to address ongoing needs related to Hurricane Helene. The “Helene Resources” event will take place from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the Isothermal Community College campus in Columbus.

Organizers describe the event as an opportunity for residents to learn more about community resources and support systems available to those still navigating storm-related challenges. Representatives from several local and regional organizations will be on hand to provide in-person support and guidance.

“This event brings together a variety of local and regional partners to offer support services for households impacted by recent storms and other hardships,” said Polk Referral Center Executive Director Michelle Edwards. “Assistance will be available for home repairs, rebuilds, housing resources, and more. We encourage community members in need to attend and connect directly with organizations ready to help.”

Among the confirmed participants are Habitat for Humanity, Foothills Regional Commission, RenewNC.org, Housing Assistance, Mountain Valley RC&D, Sunnyview Clubhouse, Thermal Belt Outreach, and Share Thy Bread. Additional agencies and resource providers will be present, offering help and information to individuals and families seeking assistance.

Attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with service providers in an informal, supportive setting. The Polk Referral Center encourages anyone impacted by Helene or interested in learning about local support systems to attend.

The event is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.
