MILL SPRING—Champions for Wildlife is hosting Wild for Birds, a fun outdoor event for families, on Wednesday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at Swiftwater Farms in Mill Spring.

This event is all about exploring nature and learning, and kids will have the opportunity to see live birds of prey up close during a special talk by bird expert Carlton Burke. There will also be a nature walk, rain or shine, through the woods where families will use their eyes and ears to look and listen for birds.

During the walk, kids can participate in a nature journaling activity, where they’ll write or draw what they find, just like real scientists and explorers.

“We’ve seen kids time and time again fall in love with nature journaling after participating in one of our outdoor programs,” said CFW Education Manager Alexis Hinchliffe. “Many take their learning into their own hands and fill their nature books at home, and that’s the goal! We are giving them the tools to be curious and excited about wildlife.”

This program is for children 6 to 12 years old, but all are welcome. An adult must accompany children, and children should be able to walk along a nature trail. Space is limited.

This free event is made possible by a generous grant from the Polk County Community Foundation. To attend the free Wild for Birds event, visit championsforwildlife.org to register.
