TRYON—Hundreds of gallons of sewer overflow were discharged into a local waterway on Wednesday, July 2, according to an alert received from the Town of Tryon.

The sewer overflow occurred between Pine Street and Payne Street in Tryon, according to officials. Approximately 400 to 500 gallons of sewage flowed into an unknown tributary of the Pacolet River.

Andrew McCallister, an employee with Tryon Water, said that the leak was due to a blockage in the line caused by grease.
