COLUMBUS—On Wednesday, June 25, the Housing Assistance Corporation celebrated a significant milestone with a groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony for their Little White Oak Mountain neighborhood located at 65 Heartleaf Lane.

This event marked the completion of new homes and the initiation of construction for seven additional units in the burgeoning community.

The Little White Oak project aims to address the critical housing needs of local families by providing 20 affordable, workforce single-family homes. The neighborhood represents a significant step toward creating new opportunities and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

The ceremony gathered a diverse group of partners, supporters, and community leaders to commemorate the occasion. Attendees came together to celebrate the hard work and dedication of new homeowners who have persevered to achieve this life-changing opportunity.

Executive Director Meg Lebeck expressed her excitement about the ongoing developments.

“This is our second round of houses in the White Oak Neighborhood,” said Lebeck. “It took us about six months to complete the last two homes, which is the fastest we’ve ever seen homes go up. We are now thrilled to announce the beginning of seven more homes in this wonderful community.”

Robert Hosford, Director of the United States Department of Agriculture for North Carolina, also addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the government and community partners.

“This is our first effort in this area, and it’s long overdue,” said Hosford. “Our low-interest loan products allow families to invest their own ‘sweat equity’ into their new homes, fostering a sense of ownership and pride. When people are invested in their properties, they tend to maintain them better, making this a smart investment for taxpayer dollars.”

Olivia Whiteside, Marketing Manager for the Foothills Chamber, said it was a special day.

“We had the privilege of welcoming new homeowners to Little White Oak Development and witnessed future homeowners break ground on their own houses,” she said. “Housing Assistance WNC is making dreams come true for families in Polk County, and it was an honor to participate in their ribbon cutting and groundbreaking ceremony.”

As the Housing Assistance Corporation continues its mission to provide safe and affordable housing in Polk, Henderson, and Transylvania counties, it remains dedicated to enhancing the community through sustainable solutions and outreach programs.
