52nd annual event to raise funds for firefighters
COLUMBUS—The 52nd annual Columbus Fire Department BBQ and Gospel Sing will kick off on Monday, June 30, and will continue for four consecutive evenings leading up to Independence Day. Sixteen gospel performances will take place, beginning each night at 7 p.m.
The event will be held at the Columbus Veterans Park on Ward Street, directly behind the Polk County Courthouse.
“Coming around for its 52nd year, this is an annual event among one of the area’s favorites,” said organizer James Metcalf.
Food sales, including the fire department’s famous BBQ on Wednesday and Thursday, will be available. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Columbus Fire Department.
Gospel performances on Monday, June 30, will include Greg and Brook Day, Brian Bircfield, Colt Creek Bluegrass, and the Elise Ingle Family, followed by Isaac’s Well, Joyful Sound Trio, Nathan Ballew, and Going Home Trio on Tuesday, July 1.
The Reggie Saddler Family, Edify, New Chosen, and the Dyer Family will perform on Wednesday, July 2, and Mike Upright, the King James Boys, The Right Side, and Golden Valley Crusaders will perform on Thursday, July 3.
Everyone is invited to the event. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs; in case of rain, the event will be held inside the firehouse. There is no admission fee, but donations are accepted.
