TRYON—Summer Tracks—Tryon’s most popular music series—continues its 25th season at Rogers Park on Friday, June 20, with Anya Hinkle with Free Planet Radio.
Well-known and well-loved, Asheville-based singer-songwriter Anya Hinkle is steeped in the tones of roots and folk music, seasoned by her world travels and vivid storytelling. Her songs have won industry recognition, including first place at the 2019 Merlefest Chris Austin Song Contest.
PopMatters calls her “a burgeoning force behind the Appalachian roots revival…” Americana Highways writes of her latest album, Oceania (2024, Red Parlor Records), “This North Carolina singer-songwriter has an engagingly smooth-toned classic vocal with an album that appears to be pop tunes but isn’t. She’s the real thing – melodic with rich traditional instincts.”
For this appearance, Anya is backed by the world-music supergroup Free Planet Radio, which features Chris Rosser (piano, guitar, Indian dotar, sarod, Turkish campus oud), Jake Wolf (bass), and River Guerguerian (percussion).
Lite bites, desserts, and soft drinks will be sold onsite by Chef Sharone.
Summer Track’s six-concert series runs through August, and all shows begin at 7 p.m. In case of rain, concerts move across the street inside the Tryon Fire Department. Alcohol consumption is allowed in the park, but alcohol is not for sale. A $10 suggested donation, along with many local business and individual sponsors, make these shows possible.
This season will continue on July 11 with the Reedy River String Band. Ashley Heath and Her Heathens, The Feels, and Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters will also perform later this summer.
More information on each show— including performers’ bios and photos—can be found at summertracks.com.
