James Nelson “Jim” Strausbaugh, 88, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2025.

Born in Meadville, PA, Jim was the son of James N. Strausbaugh and Ruth Riley Strausbaugh.  He was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and Amhurst College in 1955. Jim was an entrepreneur. He moved to Greenville, SC, in 1966 and ran Tanner Chemical Company until 1987. In 1988, he relocated to the Tryon area and worked in land development, creating The Traces Equestrian Community and Motlow Creek Equestrian Farms. In 2003, Jim opened the Architectural Warehouse.

Jim is survived by his three children, James N. Strausbaugh III (Julie), Keith W. Strausbaugh (Nancy), and Lucy S. Woodhouse; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is the love of his life and best friend, Sandy Taylor; close friends Thomas and Angie Jackson; his business partner, Kathy Phipps; and his caregivers, Rachel and Pat.
