COLUMBUS—Recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, Polk County Senior Services will host “United for Seniors” on Thursday, June 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stearns Park. This event seeks to raise awareness about elder abuse and highlight the community resources available to support older adults.
The “United for Seniors” event promises a community-focused atmosphere featuring food, giveaways, and raffle prizes.
June is recognized as Elder Abuse Awareness Month, a time when communities come together to advocate for the well-being of seniors. “We stand together with our elders” is the message from organizers, emphasizing the importance of building strong support networks for aging individuals.
The purpose of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, observed annually on June 15, is to foster a better understanding of the issues surrounding elder abuse and neglect. This global initiative aims to raise awareness of the various cultural, social, economic, and demographic factors contributing to the mistreatment of older persons.
Stearns Park is located at 105 N. Peak St. For more information or to set up a resource table at the event, contact Senior Services at 828-722-5190 or email lrollins@polknc.gov.
