LANDRUM—During the annual car show, Highland Design & Construction proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new location at 118 N. Trade St. with a ribbon cutting hosted by the City of Landrum. The family-owned business, now thriving in its fourth generation, has established itself as a pillar of quality craftsmanship in the Foothills area, gaining recognition as an award-winning builder.
President Matt Padula shared insights about their new business location.
“After Helene, we were walking to the Hare & Hound when I first laid eyes on the building, he said. “We really wanted to be a part of the Landrum community, and I knew it was the perfect spot and would make for a perfect fit for our family business.”
The new location will enhance the company’s presence in the community, and Padula is excited about its potential.
“We expect a lot more foot traffic, and now we have a place to bring people where we have all the information and samples together to show our customers. We also have great office space to work and grow,” he remarked.
Hailey Gimler, Padula’s daughter and the company’s design specialist, noted the challenges the company faced prior to securing the new location.
“It was super helpful because we consolidated our operations,” she explained. “At one point, we were juggling seventeen jobs and driving back and forth between Greenville and Asheville to collect samples. We realized we needed a central place to meet.”
She emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships with clients, many of whom have become like family.
“People were so relaxed and understanding. We plan to keep that sense of family in this new building,” Gimler added.
Matt reflected on his journey in construction, noting how foundational experiences shaped his approach to the business. “I started out as a framer; it was a trial by fire, but I eagerly soaked up every lesson from my father-in-law and his four brothers, all builders,” he said.
Highland Design & Construction stands as a testament to deep-rooted values of relationships, community, and faith. It builds homes and nurtures families, one project at a time. As it continues to expand its legacy, the Padula family is poised to leave an indelible mark on the Foothills communities it serves.
