Locals glimpse iconic aircraft en route to its next location
POLK COUNTY—On Wednesday, many Polk County citizens experienced a rare sighting when they witnessed the Goodyear Blimp traveling across the skies en route to its next location.
The famous aircraft departed Charlotte after the Nascar Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday and was spotted over Tryon and Landrum, as well as nearby cities like Shelby and Asheville. The Goodyear Blimp is set to travel to Bonnaroo soon, which takes place from June 12 through June 15 in Tennessee.
“You definitely don’t see that every day,” said Ashley Brewington, who captured a photograph while at Foothills Equestrian Nature Center.

The Goodyear Blimp is celebrating its centennial birthday this year by hosting a tour across North America and Europe, with plans to visit more than a hundred cities during celebrated events.
The first branded Goodyear Blimp, Pilgrim, took its maiden flight on June 3, 1925, which has been branded as the anniversary of the world-renowned airship. Goodyear is celebrating its grand anniversary by offering passenger flight giveaways, merchandise giveaways, and more.
