Giles has served as assistant principal at Polk County High School since August 2022, where he has overseen transportation, discipline and campus safety. Prior to that role, he worked as an academic facilitator at the high school from 2018 to 2022, focusing on credit recovery and mentoring students enrolled in college-level courses through Isothermal Community College.

During his tenure in Polk County Schools, Giles has focused on promoting school culture initiatives that increase student engagement and reduce absenteeism. He has implemented strategies to support diverse learners and has worked to strengthen partnerships with parents and local organizations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Adam Giles as the new principal of Polk Central Elementary School,” said Polk County Schools Human Resources Director Todd Murphy, who will assume duties as the district’s superintendent in July. “With his years of experience as an assistant principal here in Polk County, Adam brings not only strong leadership skills, but also a deep commitment to student success and well-being.

“His heart for children and dedication to creating a nurturing and student-centered learning environment make him the right person to lead Polk Central Elementary moving forward.”

Giles began his teaching career in 2011 as a health and physical education teacher. He served seven years at Burns Middle School in Lawndale, where he was department chair and coached basketball, football and soccer. He also taught briefly at Ranson Middle School in Charlotte.

Giles holds a master’s degree in school administration from Western Carolina University and a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Wingate University. He is a member of the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals Association and the North Carolina Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

“This is an incredible opportunity to work alongside dedicated educators and families who clearly care deeply about their students,” Giles said. “I’m excited to get started and be a part of something so special.”
