TRYON – The Lanier Library, located at 72 Chestnut Street, has recently announced the launch of its Big On Books Club for Young Readers, nicknamed BOB, after the library’s giraffe mascot.

The BOB club invites young readers from kindergarten through 12th grade to join in on a literary adventure. Set to take place every fourth Tuesday of the month from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., the club offers a welcoming space for children and teens to share their thoughts on a wide range of books, spanning adventure to zoology and everything in between.

The initiative is the brainchild of Elizabeth Peek, a fifth-grade student and daughter of Laura Peek, the Vice President of the Lanier Library Board.

“I thought it would be fun to have a book club for kids my age,” Elizabeth said.

Participants in the BOB Club can look forward to an engaging environment with no assigned readings. Instead, attendees are encouraged to discuss and share their recent literary finds, igniting excitement and inspiration among peers to explore new titles.

“I love to read,” Elizabeth shared when asked about her interests. “One of my favorite series is the ‘Wings of Fire’ books.”

An enthusiasm for reading like Elizabeth’s is precisely what the BOB Club aims to cultivate.

Cindy Caldwell, President of the Library Board, noted that the concept was inspired by an existing adult book club, which meets monthly on the first Saturday at the Lanier.

“Elizabeth thought, ‘Why not have something similar for kids?’” Caldwell explained.

The BOB Club is designed to be inclusive for all, encouraging participation from both boys and girls. Attendees are invited to browse the library shelves and spark ideas for future reading adventures.
