POLK COUNTY—Students from the Polk County High School Band finished up a successful year by receiving numerous accolades at the 2025 Western District Solo and Small Ensemble Music Performance Adjudication held on May 9 at Cane Creek Middle School.
“I am incredibly proud of all of the band students for their hard work,” said Band Director Kimberley Benson. “And I’m grateful to the community for their continued support of the growing program.”
Freshmen Sofia Corda and Molly Ramsey received an Excellent rating for their trumpet duet.
Ryan Rogerson, Taylor Deel, Joseph Corda, and Ash Gustafson received a Superior rating for their saxophone quartet performance, and Elizalee Suber, Harmony Olson, and Zetta Anderson received a Superior rating for their clarinet trio. Katelyn Marion, Abbey Shropshire, and Carleigh Parnell received a Superior rating for their flute trio. Brodie Barker, Elizalee Suber, Zetta Anderson, and Jorie Rhodes each received a Superior rating for their solo performances.
These students were all recognized at the End of Year Band Banquet held on May 13. Also recognized at the banquet were Myles Freeman, winner of the John Phillip Sousa Award for Band, and Zetta Anderson, winner of the Director’s Award for Band.
The PCHS Band students will have a few weeks off this summer before they hit the ground running at band camp in late July, where they will begin work on their 2025 competition show “Ad Astra: Journey to the Stars.”
