Its initiative, “Theatre For A Cause,” will kick off this month with acting classes beginning Saturday, May 24. Adult acting classes will take place on May 24 from 2 to 4 p.m., and youth classes will be held on May 26 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Additionally, auditions for a new play called Good Measures start Wednesday, June 4, and run through Friday, June 6, from 7-9 p.m., all at Tryon United Methodist Church, located at 195 New Market Road in Tryon.

THP founder and executive director PJ Thiessen, who just finished playing “Beatrice” in Tryon Little Theatre’s production of Four Old Broads, said that anyone, male or female, ages 8-98, may audition for the western melodrama.

“The acting classes are a gold mine for folks young or old, working or retired, have never stepped foot on a stage or are seasoned performers,” said Thiessen. “They will help provide a new generation of actors for local theatre groups and help seasoned actors continue to sharpen their skills.”

Some scholarships are available for classes; call 434-221-5113 for more information. THP is also looking for helpers, such as musicians, for the upcoming production.

“So, get your boots, saddle up, and come lend a hand for Theatre For A Cause by The Humanitarian Players, a hootenanny of a good time, and a whole lot of hometown community spirit,” Thiessen said.
