Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Glenn Othar Thompson, 78, of Tryon, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, just two days after celebrating his 78th birthday. Born on May 7, 1947, Glenn was the beloved son of the late Maxine Connor and Othar M. “Tommy” Thompson.

Glenn proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1975 as an electronic technician aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. Following his military service, he returned home to Tryon, NC, where he owned and operated Thompson Chain Saw Company for nearly 30 years, earning the trust and respect of his community through hard work, integrity, and a friendly spirit.

A man of many talents and passions, Glenn also earned his pilot’s credentials and flew with Henson’s Inc. for many years, combining his love of aviation with his dedication to local business. He actively served his community through civic involvement, including membership in the Jaycees, service on the Harmon Field Board, and proud participation as a Master in the Masonic Lodge.

Glenn was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia Henson Thompson, and their cherished daughter, Jennifer Thompson. He is also survived by his sister, Belinda Thompson Yarborough; brother- and sister-in-law Ellis and Linda Fincher; brother-in-law Leon Case; nieces Amanda McDaniel, Shelley White, Bridgette Levi, Leah Morrison, and Amber Fincher McEntire and her family; and nephew Trey Fincher and his family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Thompson Case, and brother-in-law Jesse Yarborough.

A proud graduate of Tryon High School, Glenn continued his education at Spartanburg Junior College and Wofford College. Throughout his life, he was known for his calm presence, generosity, an ability to fix anything, and quiet sense of humor.

A service will be held at a later date to honor his life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a charity of your choice in Glenn’s memory.
