Polk baseball, softball pairings set for start of state 1A playoffs

Polk County’s baseball team will open the state playoffs at home Tuesday while the Wolverine softball squad travels for their first-round encounter.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association finalized pairings Monday for the state 1A playoffs for both sports. Playoff action begins Tuesday for all teams.
The Wolverine baseball squad is seeded 14th and will host 19th-seeded Starmount. That game is set for 6 p.m. at The Bottoms and will be Polk County’s first home playoff game since 2021.
Polk County’s softball team received the 19th seed and will travel to 14th seeded South Stokes. That game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
