SOFTBALL: Adair checks Polk offense to lead Cavaliers to win

East Rutherford continued its strong Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play Tuesday, shutting out Polk County 12-0 in a five-inning varsity softball contest in Forest City.

The Cavaliers jumped ahead early with two runs in the first inning before breaking the game open with six runs in the second. East Rutherford added two more runs in both the third and fourth innings to secure the mercy-rule victory.

Polk County’s offense was limited to just two hits, with Mia Bradley and Elizabeth Vitale each going 1-for-2 against East Rutherford pitcher Chloe Adair, who threw a complete game shutout with six strikeouts.

With the loss, Polk County falls to 10-11 overall and 4-7 in conference play. East Rutherford improves to 11-8 overall and 8-3 in MF7 action.

The Wolverines will have an opportunity for redemption when they conclude their regular season against East Rutherford at home on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
