Sandra Smith Muse, of Columbus, died Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Known as “Sandy,” she was the daughter of the late Norris Edgar Smith, Jr., and Hazel Wilde Smith. She was born in Asheville but spent her childhood in Transylvania County before the family’s move to Hendersonville. She graduated from Hendersonville High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Charles Muse, to whom she has been married 62 years.
Sandy was known for her natural beauty and warmth, qualities that lured people to her, even strangers who felt compelled to share their life stories with her. Sandy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She took care of her loved ones, was skilled in cooking, and was an alluring storyteller.
Prior to moving to Columbus, Sandy and her family were active members of Asheville First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, Sandy is survived by her sons, Tim Muse (Lori) and Brad Muse (Tina), Grandsons Rustin Muse and Tyler Muse (Elvira), a granddaughter Sara Muse (Bryson Edwards, Fiancé), great-granddaughter Celiana Jayne Muse, sisters Sylvia Smith Menard and Sara Smith Horton (Dennis), a sister-in-law Nancy Muse McNeely (Joe) and a special nephew John Menard III. Her husband, sons, and daughters-in-law lovingly cared for her as her illness progressed, and she was grateful.
A Graveside Service will be at 11 am. Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus.
