Noah Harden delivered a masterful complete-game performance Tuesday night, leading Polk County to an 11-1 victory at Chase in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference varsity baseball action.

The win marked the fourth consecutive victory for the Wolverines (10-10, 4-6), who reached the .500 mark overall while improving their conference standing.

Harden limited Chase (8-13, 3-7) to just two hits over seven innings, allowing one unearned run while striking out four in an efficient outing.

Polk County’s offense provided ample support, collecting 13 hits with multiple contributors throughout the lineup. Karson Scruggs drove in four runs while Mark Jarrett went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Gunnar Alm, Avrey Hensley and Jayce Edwards each added two hits to the balanced attack.

Alm also added to his growing spot in the school record book. He now has 170 total bases for his career, matching the school record set in 2014-18 by Holden Owens.

The Wolverines broke through in the third inning when Alm singled, stole second and scored on an error following Scruggs’ grounder. Hensley later scored on a passed ball to give Polk County a 2-0 advantage.

After Chase plated its lone run in the bottom of the third, the Wolverines began to pull away in the fifth. Jarrett doubled and scored on Scruggs’ single, who later came home on Nate Fagan’s fielder’s choice to extend the lead to 4-1.

Polk County broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning highlighted by Mason Beiler’s double, Jarrett’s hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and patient at-bats resulting in three run-scoring walks.

The Wolverines added two insurance runs in the seventh as Edwards singled and scored on Jarrett’s base hit, while Jarrett came around on an error to complete the scoring.

Polk County will look to extend its winning streak Thursday when the team travels to Landrum for a non-conference matchup.
