Polk County’s offensive prowess was on full display Friday as the Wolverines dominated in a 4-0 non-conference road victory over Murphy.
The win improved Polk County’s record to 10-2-1 for the season while Murphy dropped to 7-4-1.
Reeve Carroll led the Wolverines’ attack with two first-half goals. Her first came at the 15:10 mark when she finished a combination play with Gabby Savaia, striking from 10 yards out to the left side of the goal.
Carroll added her second at 26:18 on a perfectly executed free kick from 19 yards. The midfielder lofted a high shot that dropped just under the crossbar, beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.
Savaia extended the lead to 3-0 just before halftime at 38:52. After racing down the right side to beat her defender, her initial shot was saved, but she followed the rebound and tapped in from four yards out.
Kylie Lewis completed the scoring early in the second half in the 49th minute, converting a pass from Hayden Blackwell with a low right-footed shot to the left corner from 14 yards out.
The Wolverines’ defensive unit remained organized throughout the match despite facing increased pressure in the second half. Goalkeeper duties were split between Lewis, who played the first half, and Cate Brown, who made two saves in the second half. Defenders Mia Wolfe, Natalie Serrano, Khloe Kitchen, Jill Brown and Jasmine Baird collaborated effectively to preserve the clean sheet.
Polk County will return to action on Thursday, hosting East Henderson for a non-conference match.
