This year’s award honors the incredible acts of service, compassion, and resilience shown by residents who came together to support one another during the storm’s aftermath.

As Hurricane Helene barreled through the Southeast and into our communities, it left behind power outages, downed trees, washed-out roads, damaged homes, and major disruptions. It also revealed the strength of community. From preparing meals and delivering supplies to clearing debris, checking on neighbors, and providing reliable communication locations, Saluda’s volunteers reminded everyone what it means to show up when it matters most.

“We truly felt that we couldn’t pick just one person because there were so many who helped in all kinds of ways during Hurricane Helene,” said Stephanie Winterrowd, President of the Saluda Business Association. “It was really beautiful to see so many people working together with a singular mission: help keep Saluda Strong. We wanted to honor that community and that spirit with this choice.”

The award is named in honor of longtime community leader Cathy Jackson, whose unwavering commitment to Saluda set the standard for volunteerism and service. While the award is traditionally presented to an individual, this year’s collective recognition reflects the truly community-wide response to an extraordinary challenge.

To honor their efforts, the Saluda Business Association invites volunteers and the public to a special celebration on Sunday, April 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. at McCreery Park in Saluda. The award presentation will take place at 4 p.m., followed by live music from Willy and the Po’ Boys, and refreshments will be provided by Saluda restaurants.
