Local AAU basketball team wins Greenville tournament

COLUMBUS—The One Unit AAU basketball organization out of Columbus is celebrating a big win as its 5th-grade girl’s team has claimed victory at the Amateur Sports Tournament held in Greenville. 

Coach Terry Whiteside expressed his pride in the team. 

“It is with immense pride and excitement that we announce our girls’ team has emerged as the champions of the Amateur Sports Tournament,” he said

Whiteside praised the girls for their unwavering determination, teamwork, and spirit throughout the tournament. 

“These incredible athletes rose to every challenge with grit and grace,” Whiteside added. “From the first whistle to the final victory, they showed what it means to compete with spirit and sportsmanship.”

Whiteside emphasized the impact of the team’s success.

“We simply cannot express how proud we are of these girls. Their hard work, dedication, and resilience have not only brought home the trophy but also inspired our entire community.”

One Unit AAU is dedicated to nurturing a love for basketball while fostering the growth of well-rounded athletes through competitive play and community involvement. The organization currently boasts a 5th-grade girls’ team, a 5th-grade boys’ team, and a 6th-grade boys’ team, all part of the Amateur Athletic Union which offers competitive basketball programs for youth.
