Polk County rebounded from Thursday’s loss to Brevard with a convincing 4-0 victory over Franklin in non-conference soccer action Friday at G.M. Tennant Stadium.

The Wolverines (8-2) wasted little time establishing control, striking twice in the opening seven minutes while recording their seventh shutout of the season against the Panthers (2-6-1).

Polk County opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Reeve Carroll’s corner kick deflected off a Franklin defender and into the net. The Wolverines doubled their advantage just three minutes later as Natalie Serrano delivered a precise long pass to Gabby Savaia, who dribbled past a defender on the right wing before firing a line drive into the left side of the net.

The offensive onslaught continued shortly after halftime. In the 42nd minute, Carroll maneuvered deep into the right corner and sent a cross to Kylie Lewis, who capitalized with a high shot over Franklin’s goalkeeper to extend the lead to 3-0.

Polk County completed the scoring in the 73rd minute. Charley Dusenbury launched a long kick from the left sideline that the Franklin goalkeeper could only deflect to the back post, where Hurley Bell was positioned perfectly to tap in the rebound.

Polk County was set to return to action Tuesday, traveling to Patton for a 6 p.m. match.
