POLK COUNTY—Polk County’s private and commercial property debris removal and demolition program is still underway. The county partnered with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers shortly after Tropical Storm Helene to initiate the program.

The program is designed to help individuals with properties impacted by Helene remove eligible disaster debris or demolish unrecoverable structures on their property. Eligible debris will only be removed from improved or maintained areas, including lawns, driveways, and landscaped spaces.

Residents interested in learning more about the program or applying for assistance can visit the Polk County Disaster Response Center, located at 1255 W. Mills St. in Columbus. The center is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays through May 1.
