Polk County Schools has received financial assistance through a Go Outside Grant from the North Carolina Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission to benefit the newly formed Polk County Wolverines Mountain Bike Team.
The funding will help offset travel expenses for the team’s season finale in May at the Paperboy Pedal Championship in Danville, Va.
The commission, which provides support for adventurous activities and educational experiences for North Carolina youth, approved the grant as part of its mission to enhance outdoor opportunities for children and teenagers across the state.
Established last year, the Polk County Wolverines Mountain Bike Team brings together young riders, coaches, parents and sponsors with a focus on outdoor exploration, physical fitness and community building. The program emphasizes developing both mental and physical strength through participation in mountain biking activities and competitions.
