In North Carolina, Arbor Day is celebrated on the first Friday following the 15th of March. It is an ideal time for North Carolinians to dig in, plant trees, and get involved in making our communities greener, improving the environment and public health. National Arbor Day is Friday, April 18, while each state may differ, due to the climate and planting season. The Unity in the Community Organization recently held its 5th Annual Arbor Day Project, by purchasing and distributing nearly 525 free tree seedlings, throughout the Polk County Community. Planting tree seedlings will bring benefits for years to come. Each year the Unity in the Community Organization has partnered with Polk Central Elementary School teacher, Andrea Walter, and her students. The Polk County School System Administration and staff joined the 2025 Arbor Day Project and was instrumental in making the project successful.
Abor Day was originally designed not as a mere festival or holiday, a pleasant occasion for children or adults, but to encourage the planting of trees for a serious purpose—the lasting benefit of the country in all its interest.
The Unity in the Community’s goal was to distribute at least 500 tree seedlings, which included Silky Dogwood, Black Walnut and White Pine. Thanks to all those who help in reaching the goal and making the project successful.
