Polk track and field teams deliver top-five effort at Tri-City Invitational

Polk County’s track and field teams delivered a stellar showing at Tuesday’s Tri-City Invitational held at R-S Central, with the boys’ team claiming a fourth-place finish and the girls taking fifth in the team standings.

The boys’ squad accumulated 65 points, just four points shy of North Henderson’s third-place total and only a single point behind Madison. Crest claimed the overall boys’ title with 84 points.

Davis Young delivered one of the day’s standout performances for the Wolverines, capturing first place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:03.13. Young also anchored Polk County’s victorious 4×800-meter relay team, which included Joshua Chavez, Dean Holland and Ethan Jenne, as they crossed the finish line in 9:14.54.

Blake Anderson continued his strong season in the 400-meter dash, securing third place with a time of 54.36, while Loreynzo Sanchez matched that placement in the 300-meter hurdles (45.82). In field events, Jayvin Clark earned second in the pole vault (8-6) and Khristian Littlejohn cleared 5-8 in the high jump for third place.

The boys’ 4×400-meter relay team of Anderson, Danny Bradley, Matt Jarrett and Chavez narrowly missed victory, finishing second with a time of 3:43.66.

On the girls’ side, Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy topped the standings with 110 points, while Polk County’s 53 points earned them fifth place.

The highlight for the Lady Wolverines came in the 4×400-meter relay, where the team of Louisa Wood, Renee Bright, Naomi Martinez and Karsyn Huskey not only won the event with a time of 4:30.05, but also qualified for the 1A West Regional meet.

Huskey added another strong result with a second-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:25.40), while Jessie Bradley and Lorali Wing placed second and third, respectively, in the high jump, both clearing 4-6. Beija Olivari rounded out the top-three finishes for Polk County’s girls with her third place in the triple jump (28-1).

The J. Alan Peoples Invitational, initially scheduled for Saturday at Polk County, has been postponed and will be rescheduled.
