James “Michael” Thompson

Tryon, NC—James “Michael” Thompson, 70 of Tryon, NC passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late Columbus Constance and Novella Wilkie Thompson. In his younger years, he was an avid clogger and a member of the Happy Hollow Cloggers.  Michael served as crew chief for Leslie Smith late model racing for many years. He retired from the City of Spartanburg Fleet Maintenance Department after 21 years of service.  Michael also worked for Dixie Tire and Wesley Shehan Garage.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings, Joann Donnels, Kathryn Brock, infant twin brothers, Earl Thompson, Verlson Thompson, Judy Thompson, and Janice Thompson and Jimmy Constance.

Surviving are his siblings, Debbie Oglesby, Glenda Bomar, Debbie Gregory, Nancy Ramey, Joe Constance, Bobby Constance, Mary Jane Constance.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025 at McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, North Carolina officiated by Reverend Andy Parker.

Michael will lie in state prior to the service from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. for those that wish to pay their respects prior to the service.

Burial will be private due to the wildfires.
