Foothills Music Club scholarship awards for 2025 announced

The Foothills Music Club recently announced its 2025 scholarship winners following auditions held on March 7. Young musicians from area schools and home schools presented an impressive variety of instrumental solos to the judges.  

The Lesley Oakes Scholarship was awarded to Lily Staton, Zetta Anderson, and Anna Nichols.   Lily plays flute and is a student at Landrum High School. Zetta plays clarinet, and Anna plays French horn; both are students at Polk County High School.

Elizalee Suber, Joseph Corda, and Marley Greenway, all students at Polk County High School, received the Betty Van Buskirk Scholarship. Elizalee plays clarinet, Joseph plays alto saxophone, and Marley plays French horn.

Sarah Doan, violin/fiddle; Ella Jane Tokar, voice; Ryan Rogerson, tenor saxophone; and Lyla Tokar, voice, received the Kathleen Erwin Scholarship. Sarah, Ella Jane, and Lyla are home-schooled, while Ryan attends Polk County High School. 

An Award of Recognition was given to Harmony Olson, clarinet, a student at Polk

County High School, and Kyri Johnson, oboe, a student at Landrum High School.

Each year since 1994, the Foothills Music Club has awarded scholarships to qualified young musicians in the area to encourage them to continue their musical studies.
