Both are active in the Saluda Sister City organization and will expand on that connection through the immersive experience in Carunchio. They will join a larger group of SSC members for the Carunchio Infiorata Flower Festival trip and remain in Carunchio for an additional week, hosted by a local family.

The Student Ambassadors will experience one week’s room and board at the Palazzo Tour d’Eau, where they will take part in cooking lessons. They will also visit nearby Vasto on the Adriatic Sea, receive a 100 euro stipend each, and for the second week of their stay, room with a truffle farmer and his family.

“I’m honored and excited to have been given the task of connecting our great community with the similar one of Carunchio,” Anderson said.

She and Wood have been close friends all their lives, which makes this trip extra special to them.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to build a connection between our communities, share stories of our community, and to experience our sister city,” she said.

A reception will be held to celebrate and introduce the two ambassadors to the community on Saturday, March 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Salud!, formerly known as Mewdlic’s.

Attendees can enjoy light appetizers, music with an Italian flair, and a few words from the ambassadors. Beverages may be purchased from Salud! before, during, and after the reception. The event is free and open to the public.

There are currently openings for the Flower Festival package at Palazzo Tour d’Eau. For more information, visit saludasistercity.org.
