Event to coincide with third annual Night at the Museum event
SALUDA—The Historic Saluda Depot Museum will host a grand re-opening celebration on Friday, April 4, coinciding with its third annual Night at the Museum event. The event, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., will feature local musicians Mercury Rising and refreshments for attendees.
Night at the Museum will feature historical characters who will re-enact the history of the depot, the significance and contribution of the railroad, the Saluda Grade, and the history of Saluda. This is a free community event, and all are welcome.
The Depot was awarded a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation grant in June 2024 to fund its third production of Night at the Museum; however, the building suffered damage from Helene that literally shook its very foundation.
Built in 1903, the Depot has been a historical landmark in our area and a significant tourist attraction in Polk County for many years. The storm damage threatened the stability of the structure, and as a result, the Board of Directors yet again sought help from the PCCF to repair the foundation. During this process, the Night at the Museum event had to be delayed—twice.
“The Saluda Historic Depot and Museum’s board members are very grateful to the Polk County Community Foundation for its support, which will help preserve and maintain the museum as a local historical destination for tourists and our area communities for many years to come,” said Nita High with the Depot.
After the event on April 4, the Saluda Depot Museum will be open weekly, Thursday through Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is always free.
