Polk County scored twice in the first minute Tuesday, sparking a 5-0 victory over Chase in a Mountain Foothills 7 girls soccer match in Forest City.

Freshman Reeve Carroll recorded her first varsity hat trick with three goals and Gabby Savaia added two as the Wolverines (4-1, 3-1) tallied five times in the first 26 minutes of the match against the Trojans (0-7, 0-2).

Polk needed just 17 seconds to put its first goal on the board. Jessica Baird and Reeve Carroll perfectly executed a bit of back-and-forth passing, with Baird’s final touch leading Carroll past the Chase defense. The freshman capitalized on the one-on-one opportunity, powering a shot inside the left post for the early 1-0 advantage.

Savaia set up Carroll’s second goal just 25 seconds later, dribbling deep into the Trojans’ end of the field, moving past a defender in the corner and then delivering a cross to Carroll, who tapped the pass into the net for a 2-0 Polk lead just 42 seconds into the match.

Carroll added her third goal on a corner kick, bending the shot untouched into the back side of the net to grow Polk’s margin to 3-0 in the sixth minute.

The Wolverines expanded the lead to 4-0 in the seventh minute. A long Charley Dusenbury shot evaded the Chase goalkeeper, allowing Savaia to race in and direct the loose ball into the net just before it struck the far post, upping the advantage to 4-0.

Baird set up Polk’s final goal in much the same manner as the first, fighting off a defender to play a pass down the right flank that allowed Savaia to race past the Chase defense for a one-on-one scoring chance. She successfully converted it to make it 5-0 in the 26th minute.

Polk goalkeeper Cate Brown recorded eight saves in posting her third straight shutout and fourth of the season.

Polk County will return to the road on Thursday to face R-S Central in another conference match slated to begin at 6 p.m.
