LANDRUM—Rhema Soul Cuisine restaurant has officially opened its doors at 212 E. Rutherford St. The establishment, owned by Ron and Via Childs, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday hosted by the City of Landrum.
Before relocating to Landrum, the Childs operated three Rhema Soul Cuisine restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona.
“Thanks to everyone for coming out,” Ron said during the opening. “A large part of the dream of Rhema Soul Cuisine is to reach this point where we have an amazing staff and are in a great town with wonderful people. We look forward to being here for a long time.”
The vision for the new Rhema location in Landrum began in 2023, and the Childs expressed their excitement about their choice after reviewing multiple potential sites in the area.
“We are just like our sign says: homemade soulful comfort food served fresh,” Ron added. “Homemade soul food, comfort food. That’s our concept.”
Rhema Soul Cuisine offers a menu that caters to a variety of tastes. Its “Everyday Delights” menu features dishes such as chicken & red velvet waffles, burritos stuffed with fried boneless chicken thighs, and a signature “Biggie Smalls” combo of fish, shrimp, and fries. Sides like collard greens and Caribbean bed rice are also available, alongside an array of homemade desserts, including peach cobbler and banana pudding.
Rhema Soul Cuisine is open three days a week, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The establishment will close from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for staff lunch. In addition to the restaurant, the Childs also operate a food truck and provide catering services.
