Polk County wasted no time establishing control Friday, scoring in the opening minute en route to a 4-0 non-conference girls soccer victory over North Henderson at Tennant Stadium.

The Wolverines (3-1) needed just 45 seconds to take the lead when Hayden Blackwell and North Henderson goalkeeper Scarlet Urbina collided in the penalty area as Urbina attempted to block Blackwell’s run into the box. The loose ball ricocheted to Kylie Lewis, who capitalized from the right side to give Polk County an early advantage.

Blackwell was injured on the play and did not return to the match.

Lewis notched her second goal in the 11th minute, finishing from 12 yards out into the lower left corner after Jessica Baird delivered a well-timed pass near the top of the penalty box.

Freshman Reeve Carroll extended the lead to 3-0 in the 27th minute, intercepting a North Henderson pass and launching a long-range strike from some 30 yards out that dropped just inside the crossbar over the goalkeeper’s reach.

The Wolverines continued their offensive pressure in the second half, with Charley Dusenbury scoring in the 62nd minute off a Carroll corner kick. Dusenbury charged into the box and delivered a header high into the net to complete the scoring.

Polk County goalkeeper Cate Brown recorded eight saves to secure the clean sheet against North Henderson (0-3).

The Wolverines return to action Tuesday, traveling to Chase for a 6 p.m. match.
