No open burning allowed within town limits until further notice
POLK COUNTY—On Sunday, the Polk County Fire Marshal’s office issued a county-wide burn ban effective until further notice.
Additionally, the Town of Tryon has issued an Open Burn Ban within town limits, prohibiting open burning of any kind, including within fire pits.
The county-wide ban prohibits outdoor burning within 100 feet of a residence.
The region has experienced very low humidity and windy conditions in recent days, worsening multiple fires in the area, most notably the 3910 Fire between Tryon and Saluda, which has burned 500 acres and is 30% contained as of Monday. There were also reports of fires in Spartanburg and Greenville counties over the weekend, including one in Campobello.
South Carolina has issued a state-wide burn ban due to wildfire risks.
“That means you can and will go to jail for starting a fire outdoors in South Carolina. Period,” said S.C. Govenor Henry McMaster.
Much-needed rain is in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
