Mary Sasser inducted into Second Wind Hall of Fame

TRYON—The Kiwanis Club of Tryon recently nominated Mary Sasser for induction into the Second Wind Hall of Fame, and the nomination was accepted. Mary was officially inducted at a meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Tryon on Sunday, February 16.
Mary has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Tryon since 1994 and has been involved in all of its activities through the years. She has volunteered at Outreach since 2015 in the intake area, helping serve clients in need. She volunteered with the American Red Cross and served on the local board in the early 2000s.
Mary moved to our area in 1986 from Colebrook, New Hampshire, where she was active in the Junior League. She received her nursing degree from St Luke’s Hospital in New York in 1957 and a BSN and FNP from George Washington University in Washington, DC, in 1978. She is the mother of three children and the grandmother of several grandchildren.
When not volunteering, travel, knitting and gardening are her hobbies. She visits Italy every year and has been taking Italian lessons for years She would like to be remembered for her relentless curiosity and local philanthropy.
The mission of Second Wind is to identify those outstanding volunteers who contribute so much to the quality of life in our community and to provide recognition of retirees sixty years and over who had a useful and productive life continuing beyond retirement while others paused to rest. They caught a ‘second wind’ and began a new career of service to the community and to mankind.
Second Wind Hall of Fame is a 501(c)(3) organization and welcomes nominations for induction. Requests for nomination forms may be sent to carolbrowning72@gmail.com.
