Athletes competing in Polk County Middle School’s gymnasium will have an easier time keeping track of game scores and times next season.
An anonymous donor has helped make a long-held vision come true for PCMS athletic director John Ruth, contributing funds to help the school purchase a second scoreboard for the gym.
The new board has already been installed and will be ready for next year’s volleyball, basketball and wrestling seasons.
“I have been wanting to do a second scoreboard for a few years now,” Ruth said. “Having a second one will help everyone see the time and score easier.
“I had a parent approach me wanting to donate funds to get a new scoreboard. At first, I thought they were kidding around with me, but realized after a few minutes they were serious. I couldn’t believe someone would be so generous to donate that much money to help out the school.”
Ruth hopes to see additional athletic facility upgrades take place in the future.
“We plan on getting new football and soccer goals next year,” he said. “Hopefully, one day, we can get a net to go behind home plate on the rec baseball field.”
