Wolverines romp past Hilltoppers on milestone evening

Polk County’s girls basketball team made history twice Friday night while dismantling R-S Central 58-18 in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference action at Polk.

The Wolverines opened the game with a 27-0 run, holding R-S Central scoreless until Alena Jimerson’s free throw with 6:57 remaining in the second quarter. By halftime, Polk County had built an overwhelming 40-4 advantage.

Bailey Staton, who led all scorers with 16 points, drilled two 3-pointers to open the third quarter, triggering the running clock rule. The night also saw Staton set a new school record for career assists, surpassing the previous mark held by Briana Cunningham.

The evening featured one other milestone as Kylie Lewis scored her 1,000th career point during the second quarter. Lewis finished with nine points, matching Reeve Carroll’s output.

Sofie Abrahamsen contributed eight points, while Charley Dusenbury, Mia Bradley and Jeri Allen each added four. Honesty Jackson and Kiera Littlejohn rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.

With the victory, Polk County improved to 17-1 overall and remained perfect in conference play at 9-0. R-S Central fell to 5-14 overall and 3-6 in conference action.

The Wolverines will conclude their regular-season home schedule Friday when they host Chase.
