SUNNY VIEW – J.D. Wilson, 82, of Sunny View, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday evening, January 29, 2025, at Upstate Community Hospice House.

A native and lifelong resident of Polk County, he was the son of the late Robert Wilson and Nellie Shults Wilson. J.D. was a graduate of Polk Central High School and was in the first graduating class. Following high school, J.D. served in the United States Army Reserves. J.D. began working at Milliken and Company, Hatch Plant, in Columbus and retired after 40 years of service. Following retirement, J.D. worked at Ingles in Lake Lure and Red Mountain Trading Post.

Throughout the years, J.D. was very active in the Sunny View Community, having been a charter member of the Sunny View Fire Department and active with the Polk County Republican Party. J.D. was a talented woodworker, having carved many walking sticks, which he gave away and sold. J.D. was an avid fisherman and enjoyed growing a garden every year. J.D. was a long-time member of Big Level Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wade Wilson.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Marie Burgess Wilson; two sons, Tim Wilson (Donna) of Union Mill, North Carolina and Matthew Wilson (Stephanie) of Arden, North Carolina; one daughter, Kim Capps (Todd) of Hermitage, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Annica (Hunter), Paige, Autumn, Carrington, Christian and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Ella, Willie-Ann and Raylan.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Big Level Baptist Church in Mill Spring.

A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the church, with Reverend Sean McKaig and Dr. Ansel Pace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
