SALUDA—Carrie Blair, founder of Tree Lovers School, will present “Reading Trees” on February 11 at Saluda Library
Carrie Blair will discuss ways to help you identify trees by their various characteristics, habitats, branch patterns, leaves, flowers, seeds, thorns, buds, and leaf scars. She’ll also teach some of the terms you should know when learning about and discussing trees.
Blair has passionately studied the plants of the mid-Atlantic for over four decades. She served as the president of the Virginia Native Plant Society, Piedmont Chapter, and was a board member for 25 years. She has led hundreds of plant walks for Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy, was a docent of the State Arboretum of Virginia, and was a Virginia and North Carolina Master Gardener and Master Naturalist.
Through her work with Tree Lovers School, Carrie provides botany education and landscape assessments, as well as custom classes, plant walks, and field trips for schools and other groups. She loves teaching people where to find nature’s hidden treasures and inspiring appreciation of our region’s natural beauty.
Please note that the elevator at Saluda Library is not currently working, so attendees may need to climb one flight of stairs for the program.
The Saluda Library Speaker Series is held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the library, located at 44 West Main Street. This program series began in 2024 thanks to a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation and is now made possible thanks to the continued partnership between Polk County Public Libraries and Conserving Carolina.
