LANDRUM—On Tuesday, January 14, the Landrum City Council convened for its regular meeting. At the meeting, officials received updates and discussed plans for the future.
The council began by approving Ordinance 2024-04, which amends Chapter 8 of the Business License Code to include regulations for mobile food units. The ordinance established specific rules governing the operation of these food trucks within the city.
The council also heard from Kristan Johnston and Joann James of the Landrum Farmers Market, who delivered an enthusiastic presentation outlining the market highlights from 2024 and the schedule for 2025. The council then quickly approved the 2025 schedule, which will soon be posted on the Landrum Farmers Market website.
Additionally, the council approved a Law Enforcement Mutual Aid Agreement with Polk County. This agreement, which establishes liability protections and operational protocols for collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies, is now heading to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for approval.
Interim City Administrator Dennis Harmon discussed several upcoming public hearings, including meetings of the Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission on January 21 and the Architectural Design Review Board on January 23. The ADRB will address four proposals, including a proposed AutoZone development next to KFC on Highway 14.
Tricia Taber then provided an overview of community events planned for 2025, highlighting initiatives such as Feed the Foothills and the Paws in Landrum Pet Expo, which promise to engage residents throughout the year.
Landrum Police Chief Jason Coffin offered a recap of 2024, sharing citation enforcement numbers and victim services. He noted that 23 victims were aided in 2024, marking an increase from 10 the previous year, and shared the department’s enhancements in officer training and community outreach. He also explained that the department is in the process of interviewing new personnel to ensure full staffing.
The meeting concluded without any public comment. The Landrum Town Council meeting takes place every second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
