Tryon restaurant to relocate to Landrum
LANDRUM—Caro-Mi Dining Room will soon reopen in Landrum after its previous location was significantly damaged by Tropical Storm Helene.
In a recent social media post, the City of Landrum announced that the popular southern cooking restaurant would be moving into the building formerly known as The Pasta Station, located at 909 East Rutherford St. in Landrum.
Originally opened in 1945 by the Mehafey family, the restaurant is set to celebrate its 80th year in only its third location since its establishment. The Mehafey’s made the move to the Carolinas from Miami, hence the name Caro-Mi, setting up shop in the area that is now known as the Greenville Watershed. In 1957, the restaurant was rebuilt at its Tryon location, where it would spend the next sixty-seven years serving up southern family-style favorites while offering a rustic and relaxing setting for patrons to enjoy their meals. In 1990, the Stafford family purchased Caro-Mi Dining Room, continuing traditions and becoming an even bigger part of the Tryon community.
In 2024, the Stafford Family unfortunately had to shut down the restaurant after Tropical Storm Helene forced the restaurant completely off its foundation and took out the bridge that crossed over the Pacolet River, granting access to the parking lot.
Looking forward to the future, the Staffords will open the restaurant in its new location, remaining close enough for loyal customers to visit while welcoming many new guests from Landrum and other neighboring communities.
The City of Landrum expressed its excitement in welcoming the newest establishment and looks forward to gaining another tasteful and unique eatery to join its ranks.
Caro-Mi Dining Room is set to be operational by the spring of this year.
